New Years Eve!

Bonjour mes amis! Heureux veille de nouvelles années! Since that's a lot to digest in French, it means Happy New Years Eve! In my family New Years Eve is a huge deal and my aunt comes over and we have a bunch of food and play games. My brother and stay up late (last year I stayed up until 2 am and slept in very late)and watch the sparkly "disco" ball drop in New York City.

In honor of New Years Eve I have created a red carpet look for a famous movie star or celebrity to wear. I was inspired by this:

I didn't want to go too literal in the whole sailor-thing so I went for delicate sailor. With sweet red petal rope to rap around her chest. I went with the dark blue and red stripes and, well you'll see:

I didn't want to make it one of those hockey-pockey costumes you see on Halloween, I wanted it to be original and enchanting; elegant yet use the color and roping-like thing that incorporates the whole sailor theme.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year! See you in 2013!

If Nike Made Pointe Shoes

Bonjour, comment allez vous? Now I'm just thinking out loud here but I was browsing around on Dance Spirit the website and saw a post that intrigued me: If Nike made pointe shoes...

Now the funny thing about that is that, you know pointe shoes, they're all pretty and feminine while Nike designs for sports such as soccer or football.

This is what I think, personally. I love how the pointe shoe looks so comfortable and supporting. I would feel comfort and more strength while I dance.

I don't really fancy the colors, I would prefer them to be the tradition pink or maybe anything besides black. Maybe an neon pink or a beige color. I also love the name Nike ARC angels, it sounds very original and I love saying it!

I think it would be a nice pointe shoe for athletic or tom-boy-ish dancers. They wouldn't have to dance in the tradition feminine pink and would be a new selling point.

Just thought it was an interesting point to think about. Here's the link to the article I read about on Dance Spirit: http://www.dancespirit.com/2012/04/if-nike-made-pointe-shoes/

DIY Crafts!

Bonjour à nouveau! I hope you all remember moi! Today I have a very special post! I was searching for some good DIY crafts and found some really cool ones! Here is the link: http://pinterest.com/doris_benter/crafts-for-teens/?page=11

I also thought up my own DIY craft to make your pump case, phone case, or IPad case cooler. Two words: NAIL POLISH. Now I might sound crazy but didn't every brilliant genius (aka Albert Einstein) have to start somewhere? Here is how to do it:

First you need materials. I just happened to have these but you might need to take a trip to your nearest craft store if not:

1. A case to decorate (that's my pump case)

2. Nail polish (I chose sparkly purple)

3. This is not necessary but might help (it's a thin brush to brush nail polish on)
(you can also use Sharpie)

Here is the written instructions:

1. First outline your design/pattern in pencil or a light color sharpie that matches your     nail polish color.

2. Take your nail polish brush and polish over the outline so you know not to go over it.

3. Paint the whole case or as much as you want.

4. Outline it with your tiny decorative brushes (the silver and black)

5. Wait to dry and viola, your done!

6. OPTIONAL: Put finish coat of clear nail polish over it so it stays on longer.

This is how mine turned out:

You like? This is the front, I put another bow.

**Note my bloodsugar, definitely not a great day.

Hope you try this DIY!

Embracing Diabetes

Bonjour mes amis danse! (can you guess what that means in French?)
Today I just learned how to say diabetes in French: diabète! I've been learning not to work against my diabetes and wish it wasn't there but to work with it. I know it sounds really cheesy but I speak the truth!

Lately my pump has been acting up and so I've been going super high, like 456 high! With moderate to large keytones. It kinda sucked but I'm trying to look on the bright side! With all the dancing I'm doing it will lower my bloodsugar which is really helpful.

Hopefully next year I will be able to go en pointe but we shall wait and see! I am hoping to get or make some sort of spandex belt to wear around my waist when I dance so my pump stays in and the cannula won't move around which might help my pump problems. I also want to do a new trial of a pump, the animas onetouch ping pump, which also might help with dancing.

This is the 'remote' or what controls how much insulin you get.

The white thing is the actual pump, it's wireless= magical.

This is the Animas Onetouch Ping in different colors.

                                             These are Pointe shoes.

Also, I wanted to mention a really brilliant blog called "A Diabetic Ballerina." I visit it regularly and figured you should be able to enjoy as much as I do. It's a great source of inspiration for diabetic dancers! Here is a link: http://dancethrubeetus.blogspot.com/

Dance Movie Marathon!

Bonjour mes amis! Comment allez-vous?

I know documentaries can sound boring and quite a few are but I've found a few new dance documentaries that I loved! You can find them on Netflix or rent them:

1. First Position- I loved this documentary because it is so true! It follows six dancers who are training for the Youth America Grand Prix, one of the most prestigious ballet competitions in the world! You don't even have to be a dancer to love this documentary. 5 gold stars

2. Ballerina- A documentary that follows training sessions, rehearsals, and everyday lives of five Russian ballerinas as they try to survive in the dance world. I loved it because it shows you a ballet school that's in a different country and what it's like there!
4.5 gold stars

3. Dance Academy- An Australian TV show following six dancers who soon realize that dancing at Sydney's National Dance Academy isn't all that's going to challenge them. I love this TV show so much because it's not predictable! 4.5 gold stars

When I find more good finds I'll put them on!

Au revoir!

Inspiration!

Bonjour! Hope you all are doing well!

I thought today I'd do a post on Style Icons: people that inspire you to do great things and make you believe you can achieve anything!
A few of my favorite style icons are:

Marilyn Monroe
Audrey Hepburn

Coco Chanel

Those style icons are supposed to make you feel inspired by what the did. For instance, Audrey Hepburn was not only a actress and style icon, she was also a humanitarian. She did things for the better of people.
Another example is Coco Chanel. She was a French fashion designer (which I hope you knew!) and founded the Chanel brand (go figures). She might inspire you because she was also the only fashion designer to be named on Time 100: The Most Important People of The Century.
One last example is Marilyn Monroe who was not only just a actress but also a model, singer, and of course a style icon. She spent much of her childhood in foster homes but soon began her modeling career whcih then lead her to a film contract with Twentieth Century Fox.
Hope that gave you some inspiration!

Craziness in the United States!

You know what I love about fashion? Know matter what is going on in the world, fashion keeps going. I feel for everyone experiencing Sandy the Superstorm. And what amazes me is that even though there is a massive storm (or hurricane, what is it exactly?) in New York/New Jersey, fashion is still evolving using technology and verbal speech (a fancy phrase for talking). Some designers might even get inspiration for a design because of what they're experiencing.

Another big thing going on in the United States is that today is election day! Of course you could early vote but where I live there aren't huge lines so my parents are voting today. My drawing today was inspired by a few things:

Combining all of these pictures this is what I created:

I was inspired by the canyon things for the rippled gold pattern at the end of the dress. The colors were inspired by the gold rippled picture (the 3rd one) and the shimmering gold inspired the colors of the dress. The second picture inspired the top peachy pink color and the black/brown belt.

Hope you all have a wonderful Election Day!

Bonjour mes amis! I know I've been a bad ami but I've been über busy so I'll just say it: Je suis désolé :( There, I feel a bit better.

How have you all been? I hope your Halloween was grand! I know mine was! Want to know what I was? A dead Alice in Wonderland :) I had an old Alice costume from a few years ago so I just ripped it up and put fake blood on it! It rocked! And I got lots of candy!

I know I didn't do a special design or anything for Halloween and I feel bad, but my life's been very hectic! My normal schedule looks like this:

Let's Bake!

Along with my passion for dance, I love to cook and bake! Today it was a very rainy Saturday and I wanted to bake something so I decided to make... Blondie Brownies! I didn't want to make them from scratch though so instead I used a mix. One of my favorites, Barefoot Contessa, should only take around an hour and is pretty simple to use.

Speaking of cooking, I just bought a new cooking book called "Teens Cook: How to Cook What You Want to Eat" by Meghan Carle and Jill Carle. I can't wait until it arrives!
I love to cook because it takes my mind off things. And, duh, it's fun!

Next weekend I will have another Let's Bake! for you. A Let's Bake! is where each weekend I will have cooked a dessert or meal and write about it. Well I better try a slice of my Blondie Brownie ;)

Dance Update!

Bonjour mes amis! Glad to be back blogging! I've got some exciting news! I auditioned and was accepted into a competitive dance company! It's in the style of HIP HOP, my favorite style of dance!

I auditioned on September 23 and they posted the results that night at 10. We compete in competitions, dance at Great America, and perform in general. We're working on a dance to "As Long as You Love Me" by Justin Bieber and it's one of the most challenging dances that this competitive company has ever done. The girls in my group are all my dance friends so it's really fun dancing with them!

A few tricks and moves we do in the dance include:
- An elbow stand (where you balance on your cheek with your feet in the air)
- A partner cartwheel (where one partner does cartwheel with locking onto other partners legs. The other partner stands and helps flip torso)
-Tutting (a style of Hip Hop much like an Egyptian :)

Hope your day is grand!

D-A-N-C-E

I looked up the definition of dance today: to leap, skip, etc., as from excitement or  emotion; move nimbly or quickly. While that is a very relevant definition I came up with one that fits my bow perfectly: to do something I love.

And to me, there's more to life than ballet and some girls are too scared to find out.

Not only do I dance ballet I also dance Hip Hop and Breakdancing. And yes, I am a girl.

I like to go out there and try new things. Yes you can be scared trying a new style of dance but it widens your value out there in the dance world and can aid you in Hip Hop.

And along with dance there's tumbling. In my tumbling class I learn so much that helps with other dance elements; it helps me become more flexible.

In the end you might be worried about trying something out of your comfort zone such as ballet or breakdancing but just go out there and try!

And remember:

Bonne première journèe d' ècole!

Bonjour! Bonne première journèe d' ècole! (Happy first day of school!) Well it's my first day of school! Unfortunately that means knee length skirts and shorts :'( But who says back-to-school fashion has to be dull? Today's look is school appropriate but is full of bright colors! Her is my inspiration for today's look:

Putting this look together I decided to go with light and cheerful colors. I also love the  stripes and bow on the last skirt! It reminds me of something I might wear in London! The orange dress is simple but I imagine a black and white belt with a bow around the waist would add some flair. The second picture is like the inspiration for the other pieces: it's chill but chic and that's why I love it! Her is the outfit I drew using all of those pieces and colors as inspiration:

The inspiration for the jacket I drew in this outfit came from the jacket in the second picture above. I wanted it to flare out but still maintain it's structure and purpose. The dress-shirt under the jacket can be worn either as a short dress or a long shirt. Although the jacket and shirt aren't matchy-matchy I wanted to take a risk and create something you won't see everyday. In this case the dress-shirt is worn as a long shirt. Underneath the shirt is translucent-ish tights. J'adore pervenche (I love Periwinkle!)!

Hope you like the look!

Lushees and Lunch

Bonjour! Yesterday morning I went downtown for a doctor's appointment and was able to do a bit of shopping afterword! One of my favorite new stores is called Lush:

They have bath and shower goodies plus they just made a new make-up line that I'm in love with called "Emotional Brilliance". They don't use animals to test out there makeup either which is nice! Also most make-up has 4 preservatives but Lush has 1 preservative and they're working on getting rid of that last one!

You pick the first three colors that pop out to you and the colors say something about you!

These are the bottles that the makeup come in. They have lipstick, eyeliner, eye shadow, and mascara.

This person's traits would be strong, calm, and passionate.

YOU COULD DEFINITELY SAY I'M A LUSHEE!

Here is an interview I did with MIA ROSE (aka moi):

Why would you consider yourself a Lushee?

I use their products all the time and love them!

How did you find Lush?

Through my mom who is also a Lushie :)

What of their products do you use?

For Face: The Pharmacy (soap), Tea Tree Water (toner), and Celestial (moisturizer)
For Shower: Rehab (shampoo), The American Cream (conditioner), and Rockstar or Olive Owl (soap)
For Makeup: Believe (Lipstick, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara) and Motivation (Eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara)

Would you recommend Lush to a friend?

I'm putting it on my blog aren't I? :)

Hope you check out Lush!

Burberry and Valentino Inspiration

Bonjour, et bonjour! (Hello, and good morning!)I thought this morning post I should write in Typewriter font, since my inspirations for today seem very old times-y :) I also have a weird attraction to typewriters, so this font is great since I don't have one! Just a little update about my personal life: Yesterday when I had to tragically part you guys I finished my school supplies shopping! For moi, school starts tomorrow so I have to make sure I have all my things. All right, enough chit-chat. Here is some inspiration:

Here is a bit of inspiration for ya! Hopefully tonight I'll have some time to make a sketch using those as inspiration!

Fantasy Designs

Bonjour mes amis! Today's post is about enchantment and mystery. Lately I've really gotten into this mythological stage and fairy-tale dream. I just adore how different each kind of dress can look like and I figured I'd share my thoughts with you! Here is the magical key inside my head:

These are my inspirations for the look of the day. I love them all because they are unique  and the butterfly dress looks so different then anything I've ever seen in. C'est fabuleux! The last picture of the fairy-like dress reminds me of the dress Amy Adams wears in "Enchanted" which is one of my all time favorite movies! Anyways, I found great inspiration from those for the dress I created:

I created this dress using the inspirations above: the top of the dress is created to look like the first picture's top and is supposed to be light and poof out like that just as the dress in the first picture is. The bubbly texture used to create the top of the dress is like the butterfly in the second and third picture. I made them look like something I call 'Butterfly Bows'; Bows that look like little butterflies. In the picture they turned out to look more like bubbly circles though. I tried to create the draping at the bottom of the dress like the scooping fabric in the last picture. All in all it wasn't one of my best creations but I still like it. J'adore les robes de contes de fèes! (I love fairy-tale dresses!)

Hope your inspired!
