New Years Eve!

Bonjour mes amis! Heureux veille de nouvelles années! Since that's a lot to digest in French, it means Happy New Years Eve! In my family New Years Eve is a huge deal and my aunt comes over and we have a bunch of food and play games. My brother and stay up late (last year I stayed up until 2 am and slept in very late)and watch the sparkly "disco" ball drop in New York City.

In honor of New Years Eve I have created a red carpet look for a famous movie star or celebrity to wear. I was inspired by this:

I didn't want to go too literal in the whole sailor-thing so I went for delicate sailor. With sweet red petal rope to rap around her chest. I went with the dark blue and red stripes and, well you'll see:

I didn't want to make it one of those hockey-pockey costumes you see on Halloween, I wanted it to be original and enchanting; elegant yet use the color and roping-like thing that incorporates the whole sailor theme.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year! See you in 2013!

If Nike Made Pointe Shoes

Bonjour, comment allez vous? Now I'm just thinking out loud here but I was browsing around on Dance Spirit the website and saw a post that intrigued me: If Nike made pointe shoes...

Now the funny thing about that is that, you know pointe shoes, they're all pretty and feminine while Nike designs for sports such as soccer or football.

This is what I think, personally. I love how the pointe shoe looks so comfortable and supporting. I would feel comfort and more strength while I dance.

I don't really fancy the colors, I would prefer them to be the tradition pink or maybe anything besides black. Maybe an neon pink or a beige color. I also love the name Nike ARC angels, it sounds very original and I love saying it!

I think it would be a nice pointe shoe for athletic or tom-boy-ish dancers. They wouldn't have to dance in the tradition feminine pink and would be a new selling point.

Just thought it was an interesting point to think about. Here's the link to the article I read about on Dance Spirit: http://www.dancespirit.com/2012/04/if-nike-made-pointe-shoes/

DIY Crafts!

Bonjour à nouveau! I hope you all remember moi! Today I have a very special post! I was searching for some good DIY crafts and found some really cool ones! Here is the link: http://pinterest.com/doris_benter/crafts-for-teens/?page=11

I also thought up my own DIY craft to make your pump case, phone case, or IPad case cooler. Two words: NAIL POLISH. Now I might sound crazy but didn't every brilliant genius (aka Albert Einstein) have to start somewhere? Here is how to do it:

First you need materials. I just happened to have these but you might need to take a trip to your nearest craft store if not:

1. A case to decorate (that's my pump case)

2. Nail polish (I chose sparkly purple)

3. This is not necessary but might help (it's a thin brush to brush nail polish on)
(you can also use Sharpie)

Here is the written instructions:

1. First outline your design/pattern in pencil or a light color sharpie that matches your     nail polish color.

2. Take your nail polish brush and polish over the outline so you know not to go over it.

3. Paint the whole case or as much as you want.

4. Outline it with your tiny decorative brushes (the silver and black)

5. Wait to dry and viola, your done!

6. OPTIONAL: Put finish coat of clear nail polish over it so it stays on longer.

This is how mine turned out:

You like? This is the front, I put another bow.

**Note my bloodsugar, definitely not a great day.

Hope you try this DIY!

Embracing Diabetes

Bonjour mes amis danse! (can you guess what that means in French?)
Today I just learned how to say diabetes in French: diabète! I've been learning not to work against my diabetes and wish it wasn't there but to work with it. I know it sounds really cheesy but I speak the truth!

Lately my pump has been acting up and so I've been going super high, like 456 high! With moderate to large keytones. It kinda sucked but I'm trying to look on the bright side! With all the dancing I'm doing it will lower my bloodsugar which is really helpful.

Hopefully next year I will be able to go en pointe but we shall wait and see! I am hoping to get or make some sort of spandex belt to wear around my waist when I dance so my pump stays in and the cannula won't move around which might help my pump problems. I also want to do a new trial of a pump, the animas onetouch ping pump, which also might help with dancing.

This is the 'remote' or what controls how much insulin you get.

The white thing is the actual pump, it's wireless= magical.

This is the Animas Onetouch Ping in different colors.

                                             These are Pointe shoes.

Also, I wanted to mention a really brilliant blog called "A Diabetic Ballerina." I visit it regularly and figured you should be able to enjoy as much as I do. It's a great source of inspiration for diabetic dancers! Here is a link: http://dancethrubeetus.blogspot.com/
